Massachusetts Governor Signs Rushed Bill Allowing Abortion Up to Birth

1 Mins read

Massachusetts Gov. Maura Healey signed into law a bill recently allowing abortion at any point in pregnancy. The measure allows abortions up until birth for any reason based on the professional judgment of a physician.

Previously, state law allowed abortion for the first 24 weeks of pregnancy. After that, abortion was allowed only if a physician believed it is necessary to save the mother’s life or her physical or mental health, or if the baby had a lethal fetal anomaly or would not be able to survive outside the womb.

The new law removes those restrictions and simply says that after 24 weeks “an abortion may be performed by a physician based upon the professional judgment of the physician.” It also removes a stipulation that abortions must be performed in a “duly authorized hospital,” and it strikes a requirement that abortion facilities must submit a yearly report on its procedures and processes for performing abortions.

“This sends a chill up my spine,” wrote Franklin Graham on Facebook in response to the news of the governor’s signing of the bill. “Smiles and applause while the Democratic Massachusetts governor signs a bill to allow abortions up to birth in her state. This is murder. It’s evil. She calls abortion healthcare for women. The Bible says, ‘Woe to those who call evil good and good evil’ (Isaiah 5:20). This governor and those cheering will one day stand before a Holy God—I don’t think they will be cheering then.”

In a press release, SBA Pro-Life America President Marjorie Dannenfelser said:

“It should shock the conscience that tens of thousands of unborn Americans are barbarically dismembered limb by limb and torn apart every single year. Sadly, that number will only increase with Gov. Healey’s approval of the Abortion Up Until Birth Bill. The United States remains one of only eight countries worldwide that allows abortion at any point in pregnancy. We must do all we can to turn the page on America’s ugly chapter of late-term abortion.”
