On February 23, 2016, a near-fatal car accident almost took the life of 13-year-old Traden Karch. He was inside the van with his sister and grandfather, Jerry Higgins, when a truck failed to yield the right of way and hit them. His family was okay, but the crash hit Traden’s skull.
Feeling helpless, Traden’s parents immediately turned to God to save their son’s life. They also asked for prayers from friends, family and reached out to social media. The teen was barely alive at the hospital, and blood was everywhere. Doctors and nurses even said he would have only 24 hours to live. Several hours later, family and friends came to the hospital room to pray for Traden.
After a six-hour surgery, doctors put Traden into a medically-induced coma. Prayers and encouragement poured in for the PGA Junior League golf player by this time. More so, his favorite golfer, Rory McIlroy, sent him a personal message.
Three weeks later, the swelling of the young boy’s brain had gone down, and he woke up. Soon after, he continued to recover amazingly. And after five weeks, he was released to go to rehab.
Now, the major challenge Traden had to face was bringing back his lost memory and speaking ability. He had to relearn everything he had learned since kindergarten. Amidst it all, the family kept on turning to prayer.
After miraculously recovering from the accident, Traden finally met his favorite golfer. Today, at 17-years-old, he shows little sign of speech or memory impairment and will be graduating in 2022. The teen is also back to his sport, golf.
“I was there. I heard the prognosis and I knew what we were looking at. God healed Traden, there’s no doubt,” Traden’s father attested.
Further, Traden remarked, “The only reason why I’m still alive is people praying.”
“I believe that we have the same power we can call upon. The same power that raised Christ from the dead. And so you have to call upon that power,” his mother added.
