In a demonstration of political correctness run amok, Rep. Emanuel Cleaver (D-Mo.) recently offered the opening prayer of the 117th Congress — ending the invocation with “amen and a-woman.” Cleaver’s decision to end the prayer with supposed gender inclusivity was no doubt a nod to his party’s genderless agenda.
Not only did Cleaver conclude the prayer with an unorthodox, supposed gender-inclusive ending, the entire prayer was riddled with politically correct statements. In fact, Cleaver, despite being an ordained Methodist minister, gave credit not only to the Christian God, but to countless other deities to whom people of other faiths pray. He credited “Brahma,” a four-faced Hindu deity, as well as “‘god’ known by many names by many different faiths.”
Cleaver was widely denounced for the prayer, not only because of its politically correct nature, but because it concludes with, “Amen and A-woman,” as if the “men” of “Amen” was somehow a gendered term. Of course, “Amen” comes from the common Semitic root ’-m-n, with the word itself meaning, “So be it.” And it is used in Jewish, Christian, and Islamic liturgy, being found in Hebrew, Greek, Latin, and Arabic (along with English and many other languages).
But who said being PC had anything to do with truth or reality? To the contrary, it is quite often based on the denial of reality, or, in this case, complete ignorance of a common word.
Cleaver’s shocking choice of words came after Democrats proposed eliminating all “gendered” language from the House rules, instead opting for “gender-inclusive” language. It’s noteworthy that someone like Cleaver, who spent dozens of years serving as a pastor at St. James United Methodist Church in Kansas City, Missouri, would either not understand the origin of the word “amen” or simply totally redefine it to fit a narrative regarding sexual orientation and gender identity.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Rules Committee Chairman James McGovern had introduced rules that would eliminate gendered language which would require addressing a father, mother, son, daughter, brother, sister, husband, wife, or in-law as “parent, child, sibling, spouse, or parent-in-law.” There will be no more chairmen or aunts or uncles. And no more nieces or nephews.
Lockdowns are destroying our economy. Thousands of businesses have permanently closed. Millions of Americans are out of work. Yet Speaker Pelosi and the Democrats are more worried about eliminating words like ‘father’ and ‘mother.’
This is just another step for the sex and gender revolutionaries to ultimately create a genderless society. It’s part of their strategy to dismantle the nuclear family.
