Please Lord, Heal Our Land

On Saturday July 13, at an outdoor rally, the world watched a demonically inspired 20-year-old man try to assassinate former president, Donald Trump. Just minutes into his speech at Butler Farm Show in Butler, Pennsylvania, Thomas Matthew Crooks shot and pierced the upper part of Trump’s right ear. An innocent bystander was killed and several others wounded.

Trump responded by thanking everyone for their thoughts and prayers. He also stated that, “God alone” spared his life that day.

After the assassination attempt many have questioned how this could happen in America today. One reason is the toxic environment in America, where podcasters, politicians and pundits’ traffic in hate and fear mongering.

Haters are found on both right and left sides of the political spectrum, but the latter leads the pack by regularly branding our former president as “Hitler … Nazi … racist … Fascist dictator … the enemy of democracy … MAGA extremist.”

Consider the New Republic magazine, portraying Donald Trump as Hitler with the headline “American Fascism”– featuring Trump drawn as Adolf Hitler. How about Joe Scarborough spouting off on his “Morning Joe“ show, “Trump kept Hitler’s speeches next to his bed … you hear it in his words and see it in his rallies—Fascist Hitler-like rhetoric!”?

One of the panelists on “The View” twice labeled former President Trump as the Antichrist. Even President Biden recently told donors, “It’s time to put Trump in a bullseye!”

The Washington Post, Dec. 20, 2023, “Yes, it’s okay to compare Trump to Hitler. Don’t let me stop you” by Mike Godwin: “When people draw parallels between Donald Trump’s 2024 candidacy and Hitler’s progression from fringe figure to Great Dictator, we aren’t joking.”

Politico, Dec. 10, 2023: “Why Biden’s campaign keeps linking Trump to Hitler”:

In most situations, comparing a political opponent to Adolf Hitler might seem like an extraordinary step. For Joe Biden’s campaign, it became part of the routine of running against Donald Trump. Many times in the weeks leading up to the attempt on Trump’s life, Biden’s campaign released statements attacking Trump and likening Trump’s remarks to Hitler’s.”

But by far the most dangerous and un-American tool in the Left’s political arsenal is their unprecedented lawfare targeting their leading political opponent. Major local jurisdictions, state governments, and the federal government have all unified to expend resources to try to put Trump in jail so that he could not run for a second term. There were ten federal criminal investigations, eight state and local investigations, and twelve congressional investigations. The United States routinely sanctions foreign countries for these sorts of actions.

Sadly, about one-third of Democrats say they wish the assassin’s bullet directed at former President Donald Trump had not missed, according to a new poll by the University of Buckingham. This is just another confirmation of the volatile political climate engulfing the United States.

Should we really be surprised then that someone decided that enough was enough and it was time to take out Trump?

To be fair, there are violent groups on both the left and right that are a threat to our country. Had Trump not moved his head the moment the shooter fired, America might be in the midst of a civil war right now because of angered Trump supporters.

With the 2024 presidential election drawing near, we need to lower the toxic temperature in our nation and engage in discussions with those from whom we differ with civility

All of us are responsible for the words we speak, for the posts we share, for the memes we create, for the environments we shape. And all of us would do well to look in the mirror and ask ourselves some honest questions: Am I fostering godly conviction or breeding vile hatred? Am I helping to produce courage and fortitude or do my words lead to hostility and disdain?

Let us then, be disseminators of light not darkness, agents of God rather than servants of Satan. Otherwise, all of us lose.

So, pray for Americans to be “one nation,” to be united no matter the outcome of this election. As Abraham Lincoln noted (quoting Mark 3:25), “A house divided against itself cannot stand.

We need Christians all across our nation to get out of their pews and back into the public square, to fight for our children, our country, and our future. And we need them to get on their knees and cry out to God to heal our land before it is too late.

“If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” (2 Chronicles 7:14)
