After being in the hospital for 137 days, Taylor Davis took home the youngest preemie twins to ever survive at the Golisano Children’s Hospital in Fort Myers, Florida.

“We are just so blessed,” the mother told WINK-TV. “There are really no other words. It is unreal. Whenever I went in there at 21 [weeks] and 3 [days], they said they weren’t viable, so we weren’t settling for that.”

On Monday, Davis and her twin babies — Avery and Emersyn — were released from the hospital, the twins now each weighing in at seven pounds.

Davis, who laid upside down in her hospital bed for six days in hopes of keeping her babies in her womb longer, said she and her husband, Mark, put their premature daughters’ survival and health in God’s hands.

“I cried the whole time, and I wasn’t crying like happiness,” the mother said. “I was crying in fear of, ‘Are they going to be able to save her?’ It is crazy, because they are twins, but they are completely opposite, born three days apart, different months, different ways of being birthed and completely different personalities. It is just so funny how they are twins but they couldn’t be more different.”

Avery was born Oct. 29 and weighed just one pound. Three days later, Davis suffered a complication that caused her to begin bleeding out, forcing doctors to extract Emersyn via an emergency C-section. She was born weighing only one pound and one ounce.

Looking back, Davis said she knew she “was dying.”

“I told my husband that I was dying and they rushed me away so fast that I didn’t get to say goodbye to him or my mom,” she said. “They were running down the hall, chasing my bed and I just kept on begging the doctors to just tell my other children that I love them and that I was sorry and I just kept on saying, ‘Please save my baby, please save my baby.’”

Thankfully, Davis and her twin babies were saved, and all are safely recovering at home now. Their family, she said, now feels “complete” and they credit all of it to God’s goodness and grace.

“The nurses and the doctors, they just kept on saying, ‘This is a miracle. We don’t see this,’” Davis added.

Praise God Avery and Emersyn are healthy and whole. Please continue to pray for their health.
