The parents of a miracle baby who was born at 24 weeks and survived amid a rollercoaster of triumphs and struggles are crediting prayer and faith for helping them navigate the uncertainty. Harold and Brandi Stultz told WGHP-TV how they prayed throughout baby Karter’s four-month hospital stay at Brenner Children’s Hospital NICU in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

The many days Karter spent in the hospital were anything but easy — but his parents and members of their community are rejoicing over Karter’s incredible overcomer story. He came into the world in December 2020 at 24 weeks gestation. The small infant — born at just one pound, 6.9 ounces — was hooked up to machines as his parents navigated the ups and downs of his premature birth. But, throughout that complex and emotional process, they relied on prayer and faith to get through.

“We prayed over him every day. There were so many churches, so many family members, friends, there were a lot of prayers over him,” Brandi Stultz said, noting that the couple didn’t give up. “The faith was there every day no matter how bad he was doing. We knew deep down this was another obstacle we had to overcome.”

Karter was finally able to head home this past March, where he continued to grow and develop. He has grown into his age and is now only seeing doctors for normal check-ups — yet another reason to rejoice.
