The Explosive Brief That Could Lead to the End of Roe

A coalition of pro-lifers led by the niece of Martin Luther King Jr. and Samuel Rodriguez, the president of a Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference is asking the Supreme Court to overturn Roe v. Wade based in part on abortion’s ties to the eugenics movement. The friend-of-the-court brief, submitted by Liberty Counsel asserts that abortion has been used as a “tool of the eugenics movement” in the past and that the abortion industry continues to target minority communities today.

Francis Galton, a British scientist and cousin of Charles Darwin, coined the term “eugenics” in the 1880s. The sinister goal of the eugenics movement was to eliminate “unfit” and “undesirable” people—those with alleged mental and physical inferiorities and to assign such attributes to various races. Sterilization, contraception and abortion arose out of the eugenics movement.

Darwin did not hide his eugenic inclinations, highlighting them in the very title of his 1859 book, The Origin of Species by means of Natural Selection or the Preservation of Favored Races in the Struggle for Life. And, in his subsequent book The Descent of Man, published in 1871, Darwin unabashedly revealed his insidious racist and white supremacist thinking.

Darwin described Australians, Mongolians, Africans, Indians, South Americans, Polynesians and even Eskimos as “savages,” insisting that white people are morally, mentally and physically superior. Darwin wrote that savages have “low morality,” “insufficient powers of reasoning” and “weak power of self-command,” and are therefore akin to animals.

His premise was absurd, but by the 1920s, Teddy Roosevelt, John D. Rockefeller, Margaret Sanger and Adolf Hitler all openly agreed with Darwin and passionately advocated for eugenics to evolve a “superior” human race. By the 1950s the racist, eugenicist abortion scheme took full legal root in the infamous Roe v. Wade ruling.

“Planned Parenthood – the largest abortion provider in the United States – has continued the legacy of its founder, Margaret Sanger, who believed that the ‘unfit’ and ‘feeble-minded’ were a menace to society. According to the brief such terms “were code words for the poor, Blacks, and other minorities.”

Statistics show that abortion has devastated communities of color. According to one peer-reviewed study, ‘black women have been experiencing abortions at a rate nearly four times that of white women for more than 30 years. Today, 88% of Planned Parenthood’s “mega” abortion clinics are within walking distance of poor Black and brown neighborhoods. In New York City alone, statistics show that more Black babies are aborted every year than are born.

Liberty Counsel’s amicus brief now before the U.S. Supreme Court shows beyond any doubt that abortion in Roe v. Wade is a ruthless, racist device designed to eliminate unwanted “populations” that bigots like Sanger and Hitler despised.

“This case is an ideal vehicle for the Court to finally overrule Roe v. Wade and its progeny, which have constitutionalized eugenic abortions as a fundamental right,” the brief says.
